It has been a freezing time at Fest, and despite all the walkabouts and activities happening through the day – sometimes you just need to sit down to some wholesome food which will warm up your insides. Join us at Cue for our top three foods of the day which will do just that.

Tacos

Mexican food, as spicy as it can be, is usually the way to go if you are looking for something which will quite literally warm you up. Dos Chidos don’t forget that, and they are truly masters at their craft.

Although these pockets of flavour are full of summer-inspired vegetables, the sauces and salsa that come with them are just spicy enough to keep you warm without having to drink a bottle of milk afterward. This taco is the perfect measure of veggies, vegan mayo, cucumber, salsa, and a soft shell to cover it all. It is the perfect answer to any day – come cold or hot – and that makes it the perfect festive food for a place like Makhanda.

Corncakes

Three words to describe these?

Perfect. Winter. Food.

Corncakes are lovely little puffs of dough which you can find at Pranayum. This stall offers completely vegetarian food, and this was my favourite selection of the day. It is made to perfection, with just the right amount of corn. It is flavourful, and you can choose whether or not to have the creamiest guacamole I have had in a very long time along with it. It is a must for the cold days that lie ahead, and it fills your heart with happiness with every bite that you take.

Vetkoek with jam and cheese

This distinctive South African treat has come in many shapes and forms in the time that it has been around – but when you find them at The Daily Bite, they are sure to not disappoint.

It might seem strange to recommend something so simple, but there is a very good reason for that. These fantastic bites are big, low cost, and absolutely delicious. You can have jam or cheese, or both, or even neither – but the result will be the same: pure satisfaction. Be sure to stop by to taste the true tradition of South Africa.

All these foods and more are available from the Standard Bank Village Green Fair every day from 09:00 – 17:00.
